Living Out Matthew 25:40 and Romans 10:14 On The Street
We are a community of volunteers concerned for the well-being of the area homeless. We believe a priority in serving others is to build relationships with them. We need to be relational. We intentionally work on "hanging out" with the homeless, spending time talking to them, asking where they came from, grew up, what their family was/is like, etc.. We give them our personal cell phone numbers, and tell them we're available. We go out on the street and just spend time with them, along with offering food, clothing...help. During all of this, we share our lives, who we are, where we came from ...and our faith in Jesus Christ. We share with them what we used to be like; believe; do. And how He rescued us. How much He loves us. What He did for us on the cross, and how easy it is to be in a relationship with the one who created us...but it's done subtly, done when the opportunity arises...little bits here and there...respectfully, through relationship. And all the while, we know they are watching us...how we act...how we talk...how we respond...if we really are walking the walk...or just people who call themselves "Christian", but don't act any different than anyone else.
Christ came to serve others. To love others, whether anyone else would or not. He came for the sick, the poor, the rejected, the unwanted. He came to give himself up, so that others might live. That's what we're about.
