We are now accepting reservations to supply dinners for the 2012 summer season (outdoors every Tuesday in Woodstock, starting May 1st and ending September 25th). Purchase and prepare a complete dinner, and have us pick it up or serve it yourself. Supply a meal once or as often as you would like. See "Summer Volunteering" below.
Volunteers are our lifeblood. They are needed on a regular basis, in every area. We believe that to serve others is an honor and a privilege, and something not to be taken lightly. And we believe that to be truly successful, we have to form relationships with those we serve. It's one thing to help hand out sandwiches to the hungry, go home, watch some television and then crawl into bed; it's another thing to purchase, prepare and serve a complete hot, nutritious meal for a large group of complete strangers that are living, literally, on the street, and then sit down and eat with them. It's being real. Transparent. Sacrificial. It's one of the most rewarding things you'll ever do. And for some of you, it will be life changing.
During the summer, you can join us as we purchase and serve meals on the street, hand out tents, sleeping bags and tarps so they can sleep in some form of shelter, give them bug spray, sun block, aspirin, cold and allergy meds, bottles of water, deodorant and rides to the store, the doctor and to interviews for employment. And in all this, we'll treat each person as an equal, as someone of worth; of value...the way Christ sees us.
During the winter, work at a local church that opens it's doors to the homeless every Friday night. Purchase, prepare and serve a full course dinner - out of your own pocket. Offer beds for them to sleep in, give them gloves, scarves, hand and foot warmers to stay warm during the day while they walk the street...and spend time with them. Talking. Laughing. Getting to know them. Go with them to the worship service, or sit with them during the bible study. And share the gospel of Christ when the opportunity arises. In the morning, serve them a hot breakfast that was purchased and prepared by you, and hand them a sack lunch as they leave.
